Back Brewery tours

Tour of brewery operations

This is no museum you’ll be visiting. We’ll guide you through the real operation. You’ll get to know the taste and smell of the ingredients we use to produce beer. For example, you’ll learn why we need the shells of prehistoric diatom algae, you’ll taste the malt, and at the end you will be able to tell the hopped wort from the sweet wort. And there’s no missing the brewhouse, the lager cellars, or the bottling line. What gives us the greatest pleasure is when visitors leave with a new feeling — that they understand the spirit of beer.

What can you look forward to?

Screening room

We start in the cinema with a film by Jiří Mádl. In the main roles? Stanislav Bernard and Josef Vávra, of course. The first several minutes give you the history and background of the Bernard brewery.

Brewhouse

We start the whole beer production journey here — at the four brewing vessels where Bernard beer comes into being. Do you know what hopped wort is and how it’s made? Now you will.

Malt grounds

Humno malt house — what is that? We’ll explain that right at the start and introduce you to the largest one in Central Europe. Maybe you’ll even taste the malt itself.

Lager cellars

You’ll get cold down here, even in the hottest summer weather. In the lager cellars, where the beer matures, the temperature hovers just above freezing all year.

Fermentation tanks

It’s in the fermentation tanks that the concoction truly becomes beer. What temperature does brewer’s yeast like best, and how much time does it need to work? You’ll know that too.

Pressure tanks and filtration

Pasteurization is a wonderful invention. But Bernard beer doesn’t need it. We’ll show you why — you’ll be amazed.

Kegging plant

Pepa and Standa — our two robots — work tirelessly on the keg filling line. By the way, how many kegs do you think they can fill per hour?

Bottling plant

We’ll also show you the line where bottles are filled and capped with our distinctive patented stoppers. And an inspector awaits you here. Who or what will that be?

Tasting

At the end, of course, we’ll tap you out the results of the whole process you’ve just seen. The beers you didn’t have time to taste, you can also try at our Pivnice Na Štokách.

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE THE TOUR

  • Dress warmly and wear closed-toe, low-heeled shoes. In some areas, the temperature falls to just above freezing. There are a lot of stairs and some slippery spots. Be aware that the overall tour can be physically demanding.
  • For visitors under 18, the Bernard brewery tour requires the permission and constant supervision of parents or another legally responsible companion older than 18 (such as a teacher or a guide).
  • We don’t recommend that children 6 and under take the tour. Production is noisy, the temperature changes, and some places are slippery. However, we leave it up to the judgement of the parent or other responsible person.
  • Unfortunately, the space is not barrier-free. Wheelchairs and baby carriages therefore won’t make it through the tour.
  • We love animals, especially Saint Bernards. However, for safety reasons they can’t join you on the tour, even if you carry them.
  • We’ll be taking you through actual operations, and for technical reasons you may not see some parts of production. We don’t brew beer on weekends, so you’ll see the technology, but not in full operation.
  • Smoking is strictly forbidden during the tour. There are designated smoking areas in the Visitor Centre. The guide will direct you.
  • If a group is more than 15 minutes late, we reserve the right to postpone the tour to another date or cancel it entirely.
  • Before starting the tour, visitors are obligated to familiarize themselves with the visitors’ rules, and they must adhere to them. You agree to the rules by purchasing a ticket.

Tour with a programme for larger groups

In addition to the tour, we’re happy to prepare a custom programme with a get-together in our beerhouse.
